Buckskin Mountains, AZ

Buckskin Mountains

Coconino Co.

Smith Map, 1879;
Eckhoff, 1880.

Known also as the Kaibab plateau, on north side Grand Canyon.  So called because formerly the Navajo and other Indians and the white settlers, obtained their supply of buckskin from the large number of Mule deer found in these mountains.  Is now within the Kaibab N. F. and the Grand Canyon, N.P.  There is also a Buckskin mountain in Yuma county.
