Buckeye, AZ


Maricopa Co.

Elevation 886 feet.  In T. 1 S., R. 3 W.  Farming settlement on Buckeye canal.  About 3 miles from north bank of Gila, 30 miles southwest of Phoenix.    On Arizona, Eastern R. R.  Originally called Sidney, but changed to Buckeye by C. M. Clanton, "because most of the early settlers came from Ohio."  Buckey O'Neill was once interested in this canal but it was not named for him although sometimes it is said to have been.  P. O. established March 10, 1888, Miss Cora J. Clanton, P. M.
