If you are new to Arizona Place Names you may want to take a moment to read the About Page to get an idea of what this blog is about and what I am trying to accomplish. Thanks, Peggy

Bright Angel Creek, AZ

Bright Angel Creek

Coconino Co.

Rising near southern boundary Kaibab N. F. flows south through Grand Canyon N. P.  Enters Colorado river nearly opposite El Tovar.

"Its waters were very clear.  The name was applied by the Major in his first trip to offset the name 'Dirty Devil,' applied to a stream farther up."  Dellenbaugh.

"The  little affluent we have discovered here is a clear, beautiful creek or river.  We have named one stream away above in honor of the great chief of the 'Bad Angels' and as this is in beautiful contrast we conclude to name it 'Bright Angel.'"  Powelll, Aug. 16, 1869.
