In T. 12 S., R. 16 E.  In Catalina mountains northeast of Tucson.  "Named for Lieut. John Bigelow, Jr., 10th U. S. Cavalry, retired, who scouted through the Santa Ritas in the early Seventies, looking for hostile Apaches.  Son of John Bigelow, Ambassador to France, 1864-1867, and brother of Poultney Bigelow, the writer."  Letter, Forest Supervisor, Fred Winn.
