Big Bug Creek

Big Bug Mesa and Creek

Yavapai Co.

In T. 12 N., R. 1 W., about 12 miles southeast of Prescott.  Banta writes it was so named by John Marion in 1863.  According to Orick Jackson , and others, when the first prospectors came to this creek it was covered with large water bugs, probably "skippers," so they named it Big Bug creek, and the name stuck.
