Mesa about 10 miles from the Utah line; northwest of Kayenta P.O. Navajo Ind. Res. According to Father Haile, this is the Navajo name for Mrs. John Wetherell, wife of the discoverer of the Mesa Verde ruins. Mesa so called by Gregory. Sept. 30, 1933, Mrs. Wetherill writes: "Name should be spelled, As-thon-So-sie, meaning 'slender woman.'"
